Week 5

Working on Presentation for IP3 and Create FMP Project Roles.

I gave everyone roles and presented a slideshow to the rest of the class. The slideshow included their objectives for the final piece and what they have to complete in the up coming weeks post-E1 Submission. I included images as examples for them to be inspired by and having to think about the composition and mise en scene when creating their given task. Everyone was happy with the presentation, but would have liked more of direction and script to play with. Therefore I would need to create a script for next week and a little blockout to explain them how the game would function. Peter(the animator) said animating it all will be difficult for him and says we can reduce the storyline. However I personally think we can do all of it to a high quality as weve got resources like Mixamo for the final animation. He also didnt like the reindeer’s nose using a laser. However, due to my writing, I didnt intend for Rudolph to use a laser, and wanted it to be broken more like a flashing red nose.

Workshop with Ben on Camerawork (DAY 1)

Ben Hirts first lesson was about learning the camera body and knowing alll the DSLR camera functions. We learnt the very basics on how to turn on and off the camera, and what it needs to function. Also got taught about resolution levels and the importance on shooting photos on Raw images rather than JPEGs. I learnt about the  three most important parts to when taking a photo, which is to toggle the ISO, The Shutter Speed and the Aperture (Lens), which will help with the lighting and capturing less noise in your photos. This was really useful as its Important to learn how to capture scenes and think about the mood that I will be portraying towards my FMP. This could be applied if I was to film footage on greenscreen and use it for post rendering for my final major project if necessary. We took photos of the Window as an excersize and try to get the best possible outcome. During the break in the lesson, I took my own initiative to take photos in the classroom and getting to use the functions of a camera. As I kept practicing, It was really fun to work with as increasing the shutter speed made things blurry and dreamy. But then on purpose, I managed to get clean, perfect photos of objects in the room.  I thought the overall lesson was really interesting and quite productive, eventhough theres so much more to learn.

Workshop with Kelvin on Reinterpreting Composition (DAY 1)

Going through the basic cinematic design. So a cinematic design is the application proceeds for effective visualisation. Every shot has to be conveyed and composed to create a story. A design process usually involve – concept art, story art, visual development, character art. Story art was new to me, and looks at loose sketches and compositions, focused in character performance, in prep for animation. First visualisation from a script. Visual development is the ‘cinematix design” a visualisation of narrative which includes expression of potential shot compositions. Grouping, focal, balance, rhythm would equal to an effective design.  We did a quick 15 minute task where we got a concept art from artstation and analysed it, using Kelvin teaching of the four key parts for an effective design. We looked at inspiration interms of art like Ian Mcque, and his sketches and values. Looked at others like Hans Bacher, Paul Felix, Armand Serrano and more. I really liked Michael Bills and Clement Giselain art. We then did a final task which was to complete 20 drawings, taking 2 screenshots of a scene in Spiderman into the Verse. 10 differenrt perspective drawings for one screenshot, using what we learnt from the lesson. It had to be rough drawings and more about variation of compositions, drawing different perspectives.
